We saw this madonnaro in the Centro Historico district of Florence, Italy in 2012. A madonnaro (madonnara for women) is an street artist. Historically, they were itinerants who worked in churches painting sacred art. When their job was done, they would create sidewalk art to support themselves. In Florence, these are done in chalk and they are washed away every night by the street cleaners. If you see one, remember to tip!
