More from Day 1 on the Big Island

Us, with the steaming volcano Kilauea.

We didn't get to see active lava, but we did see this hardened lava "flowing" down the mountain.

This is "Pele's Hair", material put out by the volcano.

Our guide took us into a lava tube.

On the way out of the tube, he posed us for this picture...sun at our faces, cave behind.

Lava trees. Lava coats a living tree, and this is the result.

We ended our first day with handmade truffles from a Volcano Village shop, and a wine tasting at the town's winery.

Follow The Stacked Rocks

We hiked inside a volcanic crater...the Kilauea Iki crater, which last erupted in the '50s. Once down in the bottom of the solidified lava, a trail sign said, "Follow the stacked rocks." Wha??? And when did I get such a horrific accent?

Wonderful B&B on the Big Island

This is where we stayed on the Big Island. A wonderful B&B of private cottages in the rainforest only 2 miles from Volcanoes National Park.

Come along with Mitch and me on part of our trip to Big Island, Hawaii. This is a short clip of our walk along the coastline inside the Hawaii Botanical Garden, near Hilo.

(We arrived home today.)
