Let 2012 Travels Begin!

Getting excited about a trip we've just booked for the Spring, to Hawaii. We'll start on the Big Island, somewhere we have never been, and then move over to O'ahu (Waikiki beach), our favorite.

On the Big Island we will stay at the Volcano Village Lodge, only a couple miles from the gates of Volcano National Park. The photos below are from a traveler review of the accomodation and are of the same room we will have.

This picture is looking at our room from the walkway.

It's a small cottage (out of 6 cottages), called the Kilauea Lodge. And reviewers say our room is the closest to the hot tub. Here's the room and breakfast nook, surrounded by jungle plants.

We've also booked a private tour of the Volcano National Park with Warren Costa, who runs a tour company called Native Guide Hawaii. He is a Hawaiian born and raised in Hilo, has worked as a ranger on Mauna Kea, been a public school teacher, and has a background as a naturalist and in archeology. He has great reviews on Trip Advisor and I am really looking forward to his tour. (photos from Native Guide Hawaii website.)
