My Car

For the second time in my life, I got to pick the exact car I wanted. I love it! It's a Honda Accord coupe. The must-haves are the sunroof, cruise control, good drink holders and the eyeglass holder. The unexpected luxury bonuses are the XM satellite radio (BEST THING EVER! Over 100 channels), heated seats (this is an awesome feature) and outside temperature reading. It also has defrosters on the side mirrors, I have not had to use that feature.

The satellite radio comedy channels will be a great thing on road trips. I already listen every day. It's a great thing to get a laugh every time you get in the car.

My Buddy Pat

Here is my online buddy Pat (left) after a yoga workshop with Tilak Pyle (right). Pat has given me tons of support and encouragement over the years in our shared weight loss and fitness journey. She gifted me with a copy of Tilak Pyle's yoga dvd, Altar of the Heart, to celebrate my completing the 200 hours of education and hands on practice required for my national yoga teacher certification. Pat also recently participated in a fund raising walk benefiting research into juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. Pat has been instrumental in my quest for health and fitness. And we have never met in person!

On my Needles

I'm working on two sweaters right now. The first one is a free pattern from Lionbrand.com, "Sweatshirt to Soiree", pattern photo below. I doubt I'll put on the pom-poms, though. I'm knitting it in a denim blue. In the photo of my knitting, you can see the reverse stockinnette stripe off center towards your right...see the line of purl stitches? This is a quick, easy knit on large needles (US 15).

The more fancy sweater I'm working on is Stephanie Japel's design from her book, "Fitted Knits". I'm working her "Cozy V-Neck Pullover" in a lavender tweed of llama and wool, using the recommended yarn - Cascade Pastaza. This sweater has ribbing from the bottom of the bustline to the hem, and ribbing from the upper arm down to the sleeve hem. If you are viewing this online (as opposed to email) you can click on the photo for a closer look at the pattern photo. This is a good looking sweater.

Below is the yarn store in Watkinsville (very near Athens) where I purchased the lavender llama/wool yarn. Sorry for the small photo, I didn't have my camera and this photo is from the store's website. The store is in a renovated barn, with porches around and cozy chairs outside and in for hanging out and knitting/crocheting. Upstairs is a classroom.

"If You Want to Destroy My Sweater..."

Sweater I knitted while sitting around healing from the car wreck. From the book, "Fitted Knits" by Stephanie Japel. A free copy of this pattern can be found on lionbrand.com

Crash!

Haven't been posting because I got into a car crash on Thursday. Didn't have my camera, or I would have blogged the damage.

For those who know the area, I was driving North on 441 from Tallulah Falls. Had a green light at the intersection with Wal-Mart. 3 cars traveling South from Clayton all HAD to get to WalMart immediately and turned left into my path even though they had no turn arrow. I was unable to miss the last car. Luckily there was a police officer right there who saw the whole thing.

It seems likely that my car will be totalled, still waiting on the final word.

I have a back injury that is painful. Have seen the doctor twice so far and been sent for xrays. Waiting for the results. Doctor wants me to get physical therapy, too.

What amazes me is that the other driver was not ticketed, even though the police report clearly shows him at fault. My car ran right into the passenger side rear door, where a teenage girl was sitting (she was OK). I am flabbergasted that the other driver can endanger lives with reckless driving, and receive no ticket. The driver was not the owner, or the insured. So he gets off scott free.

Meanwhile, I am in pain, missed work, and will have to shell out big bucks and time to get another vehicle. I had a paid off, dependable car.

When I asked at the Sheriff's office why someone can cause a crash involving injury and loss of property and get no ticket, all I got was a stare.

Can't Get Too Much Mai Kai

**Tomorrow I'll be posting a video from inside the Mai Kai.

Below: here's why I gained weight during my trip...crab rangoon and cocktails! The drink in the foreground is mine, the "Oh So Deadly". Mitch had the one in the back, something with mint. Evidently it went down smooth, since his is half gone just in the time it took me to get the camera out.

below: Mai Kai is dark. Very dark. This creates a feeling of mystery. Here you can see the haole fire dancer on stage, balancing lit torches on his feet. Behind him you can make out 3 musicians standing under a thatched mini-hut.

THOSE OF YOU GETTING THIS VIA FEEDBLITZ: if you can't click on the photo and get it to enlarge, go to my blog http://yogaluca.blogspot.com and click to enlarge. You can see a lot of detail in the interior this way, including the musicians, the dancer's costume and more.

Below: dark. Did I mention , dark? We loved it. Plus everyone looks great by torchlight.

below: outside in the garden.

below: ummm....Wha??? Imagine seeing this as you walk through jungle.

below: I like the weathered, plain wood ones best.

More from Ft. Lauderdale

The first place we noticed after landing in Ft. Lauderdale was Waxy's Irish Pub. After checking in to the hotel, we went straight back to the pub. They had actual Irish women working there! Strong accents and all.

below: we saw these at the pub and elsewhere, but did not get to try one because of rain. It's like a glider...the table & floor stays stationary but the benches glide back and forth together.

below: the glass says Bass, but I'm pretty sure it was a Guinness.

below: I started a tradition a couple years ago of taking Mitch's photo outside of any law office we see. We chortle about the suits inside while Mitch is running about in shorts and Aloha shirts.

below: the only photo we got together, unfortunately it's out of focus. Outside Casablanca's on A1A.

Images from Ft. Lauderdale

Below: we saw a rainbow from our restaurant table the first night...

below: gorgeous sky when I had to be stuck in class (rain when I didn't)...

below: our classroom looked out over the ocean; as usual, we sat on the floor for four days. Tough on the body.

The Mai Kai (#2)

below: full scale view of the stoned tiki...

below: can't decide which of these 2 photos I like better. It's a giant clamshell in a waterfall, in the Mai Kai garden. Which do you prefer?

below, on a neigboring table...a large 2-person drink with extra long straws in the foreground; a flaming dessert in the background (sparklers).

below: another table's dessert volcano. It's a volcano of shaved ice with fresh fruits buried in it, topped with sparklers.

The Mai Kai (#1)

Here are some photos from our visit to the Mai Kai in Ft. Lauderdale last week. Mai Kai is the last tiki bar/restaurant still in operation from the '50s.

below: continuous "rain" flows down the windows.

below: we think this tiki looks stoned...

below: this will wind up framed on my wall...

Below: I have nothing to do with posing him, he does this all on his own...
