The Purse I Made

Here's two photos taken by Bethany, of the purse I made and sent to her. It's crochet and includes 2 flowers. My sister says that makes it a "mood purse". This pattern is the Fat Bottom Bag from the Happy Hooker crochet book, done Lion Brand cotton.

Why I Don't Give Many Yarn Gifts

Video of Stephanie Pearl-McPhee, popular knitting author, talking about how non-knitters don't understand the amount of work that goes into a hand knitted gift.

Whoo Hoo! Presents!

I did a bag trade with my childhood friend, Bethany McKenzie, who lives in Canada. I sent her a crochet bag, and she sent me a knitted one. And the one she made is AWESOME!

Here it is, with a lovely felted flower closure.

The bottom of the bag is done in the same contrasting yarn as the flower.

And inside the bag were these unexpected gifts! A nature photography greeting card that was made by her brother in law; a knitting book by a Canadian author; a yummy skein of sock yarn that was hand dyed by her supervisor at the library; and a set of handmade double pointed needles that were made by a local artisan who my friend knows. WOW.

Living with Art

Hung a painting by mother last week, it looks great. It's so fabulous to live with art created by someone you know.

Last weekend in Athens...

below: a photo I took of Waikiki beach has just the right colors to tie together the tile colors in the main bathroom of the new house (didn't have wire to hang it on hand).
